At the 14th Mumbai Film Festival, which raised its curtains yesterday, world famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou received the Life Achievement award, qq.com reports.
Zhang, acclaimed for his classic works "The Red Sorghum," "Raise the Red Lantern" and "Ju Dou," is considered one of the best directors in China. His latest film was the wartime blockbuster "The Flowers of War."
Renowned Indian actor Anupam Kher made a speech at the ceremony, stating, "You sir! What you have done has dwarfed all of my achievements!"
The award was presented by the popular Indian actress Waheeda Rahman, who admitted that she was a big fan of Zhang's work.
Upon accepting the award, director Zhang said, "Films are bridges which make us understand one another, support each other, and love each other. I take this award as the beginning not the end. I hope in the future I can shoot better films for you."
The film fest will run for 8 days with more than 200 hundred films from around 60 countries and regions set to be screened as they each compete for various awards.
