"An End to Killing" To Be Released in May
The Hollywood superhero blockbuster "Avengers" grossed 114 million yuan (US$18 million) in Chinese box office revenue in only two days after it opened at mainland cinemas last weekend, Mtime.com reports.
Distributed by The Walt Disney Company and produced by Marvel Marvel Entertainment, "Avengers" was released in China last Saturday in 2D, 3D, IMAX 3D formats. The rush to cinemas to see the action flick broke the box office earnings record previously set by "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" and "Kung Fu Panda 2" during the past two years.
As of last weekend, the international box office earnings of "Avengers" amounted to US$447 million, bringing the film's total global haul to US$654 million.
"Avengers" holds a safe lead in Chinese cinemas, while the box office earnings of domestic films such as "Design of Death," "Guns and Roses" and "An Inaccurate Memoir" have been much lower than expected.
