Aaron KWOK and Nick CHEUNG are preparing to join director Oxide PANG from April to shoot "Conspirator", a suspense action film that heads Universe Films Distribution Co Ltd's new slate.
The story is a spin-off from Pang's previous The Detective (2007), and sees private detective Tam restart a drugs trafficking case with the help of an agent on the trail of his parents' killer. The $5 million picture will shoot in Thailand, China and Malaysia, with delivery expected for the end of the year.
Universe is also readying Inferno, a US$16 million disaster film from Oxide and Danny PANG. The film will shoot from July but will not be delivered until the end of 2013 due to its substantial special effects. Its all-star cast includes Louis KOO, LAU Ching-wan, SUN Honglei, WANG Xueqi, WANG Baoqiang and Angelica LEE.
In addition, Benny CHAN is preparing an untitled action film about narcotics detectives. Pre-production on the $18 million project will start in August, with delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2013.
The trio will be given a splashy launch at next month's Hong Kong FilMart.
