American-born Chinese brothers Christopher and Dickson Lee have set up Move Eye Media, a new Beijing-based company that spans production and strategic consulting.They aim to expand the growing trend of co-production and collaboration between the Chinese and US film industries.
Christopher LEE (pictured right) had ten years of experience in the US film industry with companies including Will Smith's Overbrook and Ron Burkle's Absolute Entertainment, before shifting to Beijing for a three year stint at DMG Entertainment. Dickson Lee (pictured left), who will be Move Eye's COO and chief financial officer, spent ten years at Sony Pictures Entertainment in Los Angeles, responsible for strategic and operational planning and financial initiatives.
The company is developing a slate of feature productions that include a battle-of-the-sexes Chinese-language comedy; an action-filled, English-language comedy; and an adaptation of a Chinese best-selling novel that it positions as a global action thriller for a US studio partner. Christopher Lee is also a credited producer on the upcoming fantasy action film Gods. The company is handling international sales on Close Encounter of Mahjong, a dark comedy by Chinese writer-director Donald LI. The company will arrange financing for its projects on an ad hoc basis.
"While countless new companies have formed during the last few years as part of China's rapid film industry expansion, many of them were started by individuals crossing over from unrelated fields," said Christopher Lee. "Move Eye marks one of the few times in recent years that an independent company is being started up in China and headed by a team with a significant number of years of experience in the film business on both sides of the Pacific."
In addition, Move Eye seeks to partner with provincial property developers wanting to build international-level studio production bases in and around China.
