According to a report from American entertainment magazine "Variety," Hollywood Oscar winners Tim Robbins and Adien Brody will be cast in Chinese director Feng Xiaogang's famine-themed epic "1942".

The production company responsible for the project, Huayi Brothers, has confirmed that Adien Brody will portray the reporter Theodore White from 'Time' magazine, while Tim Robbins will play a priest.

Having been in the works for 18 years, "1942" started shooting in October, but the names of the two Hollywood stars had been kept in dark until today, generating a great deal of interest.

Actor-director Tim Robbins is well known by Chinese audiences for his role in 'The Shawshank Redemption'. He garnered best actor awards for his role in 'The Player' at the Cannes International Film Festival as well as the Golden Globe Awards in 1992. And he took home the best supporting actor award at the 2004 Oscar Awards. His latest work to be seen on Chinese screens was "The Green Lantern."

'The Pianist' star Adien Brody is the youngest best actor winner in Oscar history. His latest film 'Midnight in Paris' was a dark horse on the North American box office charts during the summer holiday slot.

Penned by Liu Zhenyun and produced by Chen Kuo-fu, "1942" tells the tale of a famine that happened in Henan province in 1942, resulting in 3 million people dying.

The film will include a collection of domestic celebrity heavyweights including Zhang Guoli, Chen Daoming, Zhang Hanyu and Li Xuejian, among others.

The release date has not yet been confirmed.
