Award-winning silver screen heavyweights Tony Leung and Lau Chingwan take on opposing roles for the star-studded film 'The Great Magician' which will be released around the time of the new year.

There is already speculation that the film will spark competition between these two actors.

Produced by Bona Film Group and Emperor Motion Pictures and directed by Derek Tung-Sing Yee, the movie features an all-stars cast including Tong Leung, Lau Chingwan, Zhou Xun, Yan Ni, Paul Chun and Wu Gang.

"The Great Magician" will be released during the New Year's holiday slot and to join the New Year's holiday box office revenue competition with "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3D," also produced by Bona Film Group and director Zhang Yimou's epic war film, "The Flowers of War," which recently reported to join the next year's Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film.

The makers of the film released a batch of new character posters today with the leading actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai being absent from the pictures.

The posters elicited some media attention upon their release, with Tony Leung's absence. But the production team provided an explanation that they were keen to maintain a low key approach and are using Leung as a drawcard that is being held in reserve.
