Bona Film Group, the company that produced the wuxia martial arts drama "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3-D," held a signing ceremony yesterday in Beijing to announce its cooperation with IMAX Corp. in turning the movie into an IMAX 3-D version, Mtime.com reports.
Scheduled for release on December 18, the project will be the third Chinese film on IMAX screens following the disaster film "Aftershock" and epic drama "The Founding of a Party." It will be the first IMAX 3-D version in Chinese film history.
"It is a pleasure to work together with Bona to put 'Dragon Gate' on IMAX 3D screens," said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Corp. "We saw its fantastic footage and was impressed by director Hsu Hark's 3-D wuxia drama at the Cannes International Film Festival, so we decided to make it into an IMAX 3-D version with high-quality pictures and sound."
The movie's IMAX 3-D trailer was unveiled at the ceremony.
"I believe 'Dragan Gate' will become the classic of IMAX 3-D films," Hsu said.
It will be the second time that Hsu has worked with kung fu megastar Jet Li since their last flick "Once Upon a Time in China."
Other cast members include Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Li Yuchun, Gui Lunmei and Mavis Fan.
