The film debut of China's top magician Louis Liu(Liu Qian) will hit cinemas in mid-August, M1905.com reports.

In "My Kingdom," Liu portrays the villain, an insidious police chef during the 1920s. He creates a series of snares to entrap his opponents, played by Wu Chun, Han Geng, and Barbie Hsu.

The film will mark Liu's first appearance on the silver screen. He said although he read many scripts in the last two or three years, few tempted him until he encountered "My Kingdom."

"Previous roles in these scripts were all magic-related ones, but in 'My Kingdom' I will play the villain which is a role I have not expected before," Liu was quoted as saying. "I have to reshape myself completely in the film. That is really exciting."

As a magician, Liu is a household name in China because of his mind-blowing performances on two consecutive China Central Television "Spring Festival Galas," one of the nation's highest-rated TV shows.
