The international distributor Nadiya said it has always been interested in films that focus on female subject matter. The company also said it snapped up the movie's international film rights before they officially went on sale in Cannes, because of the film's mysterious and touching story and star-studded cast which includes Li Bingbing, Gianna Jun and Hugh Jackman.
Nadiya previously showed its strength while handling the international sales of the Oscar-winning thriller "Black Swan" at the beginning of the year. A company spokesman said Nadiya had faith in "The Secret Fan."
Director Wang Ying said he was very excited about the news, adding that he felt relieved for his work and hoped the film would perform well at the Shanghai International Film Festival in mid-June.
"Snow Flower and The Secret Fan" revolves around two parallel stories across generations and delves into everlasting female friendship.
To promote the film, the production company purchased a huge advertising space for its posters on New York's Fifth Avenue. The mystique of the poster, which shows half of Li Bingbing's face kissing a fan with her red lips, has appeared to whet the appetite of American audiences.
