Director John Woo's latest film "Flying Tigers," set to start shooting this fall, will be released in IMAX format according to the report of Hollywoodreporter.com.

Woo will work with the Creative Artists Agency and IMAX in an effort to bring a larger than life quality to his roughly $90 million 1940s war film which will feature epic aerial battles.

Woo said that he hopes to cast Liam Neeson in the leading role of Chennault. Chinese actor Liu Ye is likely to star opposite Neeson as a trainee pilot in the film.

Liu last appeared in a leading role in Lu Chuan's Nanjing Massacre picture "City of Life and Death" and plays the part of Mao Zedong in the Communist Party of China (CPC) anniversary film "Jian Dang Wei Ye," which is currently in production.

"Flying Tigers" is based on a story well known in China and the US. General Chennault's Flying Tigers squadron flew successful missions around the southwest cities against the raiding Japanese while also transporting supplies to Chinese forces.

"Flying Tigers" is currently in pre-production and will be released in 2011.
