Wilson Yip's martial arts film "Ip Man 2" will hit cinema screens around Asia on April 29. The movie's trailer was released recently.
Donnie Yen reprises his leading role from the original movie. Huang Xiaoming, Sammo Hung and Lynn Hung also star.
According to the trailer, "Ip Man 2" continues "Ip Man's" story, revealing what happens after Ip Man moves to Hong Kong and attempts to propagate Wing Chun in the region.
At the beginning, the film focuses on the disputes between the disciples of Hung Ga and Wing Chun martial arts, as well as the rivalry between their two leading practitioners. Wing Chun, as taught by Ip Man (Donnie Yen), is viewed as a martial art; Hung Ga, as taught by Hung Jan Nam (Sammo Hung), is seen as a macho form of boxing.
Afterwards, they iron out their differences with each other and fight against British colonial forces, in this case represented by a western boxing champion (Darren Shahlavi), in order to defend the dignity of the Chinese martial arts. Ip Man states that he does not want to prove that Chinese martial arts are the best in the world, but hopes that westerners won't look down on Chinese people.
This movie also has some moments of "family drama", such as the ongoing conflict between Ip Man and his wife Wing Cheng (Lynn Hung). At the end of the trailer, a meaningful and moving line is uttered by Ip Man: "which one is more important, fighting to see who is the winner or eating with the family?"
