3D technology is becoming increasingly popular in the global film market. "Monkey King", a traditional Chinese cartoon, is the latest to follow the trend, Sohu.com reports.

The film will cost 250-million yuan (US $36-million) to put it into IMAX 3D, aiming to provide a stunning and magical action film. Hong Kong director Pou-Soi Cheang has been selected to direct the film. As for the role of Monkey King, Cheang has locked down two action stars, Donnie Yen and Jet Li.

The film is set to be shot in October. The crew is currently working on the shooting location in Huaguo mountain and Shuilian cave. Two places are taken into account, Zhang Jiajie in Hunan province and Wolong in Sichuan province.
