The first Oxhide was a truly original piece of independent cinema that garnered top awards at festivals in Berlin and Vancouver as well as HKIFF's Golden DV prize. For this "sequel", which premiered at Cannes, director Liu Jiayin once again aims the camera at herself and her parents to give us a warm, at times hilarious portrait of a family. The nine scenes in the film, shot with one fixed camera, chronicles the seemingly mundane tasks of wrapping and cooking delicious dumplings. Though it may seem simplistic, don't be fooled – this carefully scripted film reveals much beneath the surface.
