The film "Welcome to Shama Town," starring Sun Honglei, Lin Chiling, Li Liqun and Gan Wei, will be released this summer, the Beijing Youth Daily reports.
Director Li Weiran stresss that "Welcome to Shama Town" is absolutely not the Chinese version of "Indiana Jones" or "National Treasure," but rather a new, original Chinese comedy.
"Welcome to Shama Town" takes place in a legendary town called Shama in the distant territory of northwest China. A group of international thieves comes in search of some little-known treasure, thus opening a bloody and ironic battle in the desert. In the film, Sun Honglei and Lin Chiling, who were enemies as well as partners, embark on a comical war with this group of well-equipped international raiders.
Director Li stated the style of the film will counter the audience's impression of westerns, which have usually been associated with a sand-filled skies and a glint of cold steel from heated combat. "Welcome to Shama Town" will be a new original Chinese comedy, and its style will be distinct from the comedies of Feng Xiaogang and Stephen Chow. "Welcome to Shama Town" will reportedly carry out a series of activities during the Hongkong International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival.
